Description:

The IS220PAICH1A is an analog input/output (I/O) module developed under the Mark VI series by General Electric (GE). It supports both Simplex and Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) Mark VI control systems. These systems are suitable for a range of applications, from small-scale to large integrated systems, with control capabilities spanning from individual modules to multiple distributed modules. The system's processing capacity allows it to handle up to nine 21-slot VME racks filled with I/O boards within 40 milliseconds, including data voting. This is achieved through a method known as Software Implemented Fault Tolerance (SIFT), where inputs are voted on in software. Each control module's VCMI board receives inputs from the control module backplane and other modules via its own IONet.

Beyond standard I/O functions, the Mark VI offers a variety of boards specifically designed for direct communication with certain sensors and actuators. This direct communication often reduces or eliminates the need for additional instrumentation, thereby minimizing potential single points of failure in critical areas. As a result, operational reliability is enhanced, and long-term maintenance costs are decreased. The diagnostics can also directly query the devices connected to the equipment due to this direct linkage, which optimizes effectiveness. This information aids in assessing the performance of both devices and systems.
