Description:

The IS220PSCAH1B is a versatile Serial Communications I/O Pack, part of the Mark VIe series by General Electric. This device serves as an interface between one or two Ethernet I/O networks and a serial communication terminal board. Within the pack, there are two main components: a processor board common to all Mark VIe distributed I/O packs and a dedicated serial communications board. The serial communications board boasts six individually configurable serial transceiver channels that can meet the RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 half-duplex standards. Powered through a three-pin power input and two RJ45 Ethernet connectors, the pack outputs via a DC-62 pin connector directly attached to the corresponding terminal board connector. In Simplex Networks configurations, one Ethernet port supports Ethernet Modbus communication. For maintenance and troubleshooting, the pack features visual diagnostic indicators in the form of LEDs.

To install the IS220PSCAH1B, follow these steps:
1. Mount the chosen terminal board securely.
2. Insert one PSCA pack into the terminal board connector.
3. Mechanically secure the pack using threaded inserts near the Ethernet ports, which attach to a terminal board-specific mounting bracket. Ensure no right-angle force is applied to the DC-62 pin connector between the pack and the terminal board. This adjustment typically only needs to be done once during the product's lifespan.
4. Depending on your system setup, connect one or two Ethernet cables. The PSCA can operate with either port and is not sensitive to Ethernet connections, allowing for proper operation over either port if dual connections are used.
5. Connect the pack to power by plugging into the side connector. The I/O pack has a built-in soft-start feature that manages current inrush upon power application, eliminating the need to disconnect power from the cable before plugging it in.
6. Configure the I/O pack as needed using the ToolboxST application.

All Mark VIe Ethernet I/O packs and modules utilize the same processor board, equipped with:
- Two fully independent 10/100 Ethernet ports with connectors
- A hardware watchdog timer and reset circuit
- An internal temperature sensor
- Status-indicating LEDs
- Electronic ID and capability to read IDs on other boards
- A soft start/current limiter on the input power connector
- Local power supplies with sequencing and monitoring capabilities

When power is applied, the soft-start circuit gradually increases voltage on the processor board. After self-tests are completed, the processor loads application code specific to the I/O pack type from flash memory. This code checks board ID information to ensure compatibility between the application code, acquisition board, and terminal board. If matched correctly, the processor initiates Ethernet communications, requesting a network address using DHCP and the terminal board's unique identification. Once Ethernet initialization is complete, the processor programs on-board logic, executes the application, and enables the acquisition board to boot up.
