Description:

The IS220PAICH2B is analog I/O module engineered by GE. It serves as an electrical interface, connecting one or two Ethernet I/O networks to an input terminal board. The module comprises a processor board shared among all Mark VIe distributed I/O packs and a dedicated acquisition board for the analog input function. Remarkably, it can manage up to ten analog inputs, with the first eight configurable for 5 V or 10 V inputs or 0-20 mA current loop inputs.

IS220PAICH2B Connectors
This module incorporates several key connectors:
- A DC-37 pin connector on the underside links directly with the discrete input terminal board, housing 24 input signals, ID signal, relay coil power, and feedback multiplex command.
- The primary system interface features an RJ45 Ethernet connector labeled ENET1.
- A secondary or redundant system interface is via another RJ45 Ethernet connector marked ENET2.
- A 3-pin power connector supplies 28 V dc power to both the pack and terminal board.

Processor
The processor application code houses all necessary logic for the I/O pack to operate from one or two Ethernet inputs. Notably, when two Ethernet inputs are employed, both network paths remain active, ensuring uninterrupted operation even if one network fails. This setup offers higher fault tolerance than traditional hot-backup systems, which only use the second port upon primary port failure. Additionally, the processor's Ethernet ports automatically negotiate speeds (10 MB/s or 100 MB/s) and duplex operations (half or full).

Power Management
The 28 V input circuit of the I/O pack integrates power management, including a soft start to mitigate current inrush during power application. After power-up, a rapid current limit function activates to prevent any issues on the pack or terminal board from affecting the 28 V power system. A green PWR LED indicates proper power function; this LED remains off if the current limit function is triggered until the issue resolves.

Installation Steps
1. Mount the chosen terminal board securely.
2. Insert the PAIC I/O pack into the terminal board connectors.
3. Use threaded studs adjacent to the Ethernet ports for mechanical security, ensuring no right-angle force affects the DC-37 pin connector between the pack and terminal board.
4. Depending on the configuration, connect one or two Ethernet cables. With dual connections, link ENET1 to the R controller's network.
5. Connect the power by plugging in the side connector. Thanks to the inherent soft-start feature controlling current inrush, disconnecting power before plugging in is unnecessary.
6. Configure the I/O pack as needed using ToolboxST application.

Diagnostics
The I/O pack conducts various self-diagnostic tests, including:
- Power-on self-tests covering RAM, flash memory, Ethernet ports, and most processor board hardware.
- Continuous monitoring of internal power supplies.
- Verification of hardware compatibility between the terminal board, acquisition board, and processor board, by checks on the correctness of the application code from flash memory.
- Hardware limit checks set near the operating range's end on each analog input, generating a logic signal and halting further scanning once reached. L3DIAG xxxx denotes a logic signal for the entire board.
- System limit checks based on configurable levels, useful for alarm generation, device enabling/disabling, and as latching/non-latching switches. RESET SYS clears out-of-bounds conditions.
- Precision reference voltages included in each scan to confirm the health of ADC circuits by comparing measured values to expectations.
- A small burden resistor senses analog output current on the terminal board, ensuring DAC circuits' integrity by comparing commanded and actual currents.
- Constant checking of the analog output suicide relay for consistency between commanded state and feedback indication, with diagnostic information available through ToolboxST application. Individual diagnostic signals can be latched and reset with RESET DIA if they return to a healthy state.
