Description:

The IS200SSCAH2AGD is a Serial Communication I/O Terminal Board developed by General Electric as part of the Mark VI series. This Simplex Serial Communication Input/Output (SSCA) terminal board features up to six communication channels, each capable of transmitting RS-232C, RS-485, or RS-422 signals. The PSCA I/O pack is compatible with the SSCA and connects to the controller via Ethernet, plugging into the DC-37 pin connector.

The SSCA board is mounted on a DIN-rail using a sheet metal carrier and a plastic insulator mount. This assembly can also be directly bolted into a cabinet. The SSCAH2 includes a 48-terminal right-angle header that supports various commercially available pluggable terminal blocks. Typically, #18 AWG (shielded twisted pair) wiring is used for connections. The external mounting bracket for the I/O cable shield is either provided by the customer or by GE. E1 and E2 are used as mounting holes for the chassis ground connection, and a shield ground must be connected to one of the SCOM terminals (37-48).

Each of the six serial communication channels on the SSCA terminal board has six connection points: four signal lines (A-D), a signal return, and a shield common (SCOM). The RET terminal is designated for RS-232C returns. All six channels follow the same signal order when viewed through the box terminals: SCOM, A, B, C, D, Ret, from left to right. The channel assignments are as follows: Channels five, four, and one are at the bottom set of terminals; Channels six, three, and two are at the top set of terminals.

For RS-422 or RS-485 use, termination resistors must be provided at both ends of the transmission line. The SSCA offers selectable termination resistors for each pair of signal lines, controlled by JP1A and JP1B jumpers for signals A-B and C-D, respectively. By default, the jumpers are set to disconnect the termination resistors. The relationship between the termination jumpers and the serial communication channel signals is clearly marked on the SSCA.

Diagnostics
The PSCA I/O pack interrogates the JA connector on the terminal board, which contains an ID device—a read-only chip with the serial number, board type, revision number, and J connector location. If the I/O processor detects a mismatch, a hardware incompatibility fault is generated.

Configuration
Jumpers are utilized to configure the terminal board. For the six serial communication channels, jumpers JP1A through JP6A apply or remove termination resistors between signal lines A and B, while jumpers JP1B through JP6B handle signal lines C and D. Jumpers JP1R through JP6R determine whether the return is resistive or capacitive to SCOM.

A single cable connector with 37 (female) connections occupies one long edge of the board, next to its single integrated circuit (U1), a read-only memory chip. A 48-position terminal block is located on the opposite edge, flanked by two drilled holes with conductive material around their circumference, acting as terminal connectors.
