Description:

The IS200EXHSG4A is an exciter high-speed relay driver board engineered by General Electric, integral to the EX2100 Excitation system. It plays a pivotal role within the EX2100 Excitation Control, furnishing drivers for direct current (dc) contactors and pilot relays crucial for field flashing and de-excitation operations. These boards interface with the Exciter Backplane Board, connecting either to three Exciter Main Input/Output Boards (EMIO) in redundant control configurations or a singular EMIO board in simplex control setups.

Key Features:

The EXHS board incorporates pilot relays for flashing relays 53A and 53B, as well as pilot relays for the de-excitation relay KDEP. It conditions de-excitation status signals from the Exciter De-Excitation Board (EDEX) before transmitting them to the EMIO. Similarly, it processes crowbar status signals received from the EXDE De-Excitation Control Board and forwards them to the EMIO. The board monitors feedback from three contact inputs—41, 53A, and 53B—powered by a 70 V dc supply.

All electrical connections on the board are energized by the exciter power supply, which subsequently routes the generated status signals to the EMIO.

Contact Inputs:

Contacts 53A, 53B, and 41 are integrated into the EXHS board for monitoring by the EMIO. In both simplex and redundant control scenarios, these inputs function similarly; however, in redundant control applications, the inputs are distributed across M1, M2, and C controllers.

In simplex control modes, signals are exclusively directed to the M1 controller's EMIO. The EXHS board powers these three connections using a 70 V dc supply, sourced through resistors connected at terminals J12M1 and J12M2. The wetting voltage can range between 63 and 84 V dc. The signal output is then distributed to M1, M2, and C controllers, while the contact input monitoring circuitry resides on the EMIO board.

Application Data:

Close function contactor drivers include models K41 (for M1, M2, and C), with flashing pilot relays designated as K53A and K53B. The sole de-excitation pilot relay is identified as KDEP. Pin connectors J505, J508, and J515, all 25-pin, facilitate cable connections to EMIO boards M1, M2, and C, respectively. These connectors carry analogous signals with comparable wiring schemes, where J505 links to M1, J508 to M2, and J515 to C. Notably, J515 does not convey de-excitation or crowbar signals. For auxiliary contact wetting purposes, plugs J12M1 and J12M2 introduce a 70 V dc supply from the M1 and M2 power sources.

Board Replacement Procedure:

Ensure that the exciter has been deactivated. Inside the control cabinet, verify that all electrical I/O circuits are turned off before touching them. To simplify reconnection, ensure that all cables are labeled with the correct connector name (as marked on the board), then carefully disconnect all cables from the EXHS board. Before removing any mounting hardware, place a rag or other nonconductive barrier beneath the EXHS board (above the board rack). Dropping a clip or any hardware into the equipment could result in equipment damage, personal injury, or an exciter trip while the EX2100 is turned on. Remove the screws holding the EXHS board to its mounting and the board itself. Verify that the replacement board is the same type (G1 or G2) as the original one. Install the new EXHS board on its mounting with the screws removed in step 4 and orient it in the same position as the one removed. Reconnect all cables to the EXHS board as labeled, ensuring they are properly seated on both ends. Shut the control cabinet door.

Functional Comparison - EXHSG4A vs. EXTB:

The EXHSG4A shares numerous similarities with the exciter terminal board but differs significantly by replacing the forty-one DC contactors found on the EXTB with a solid-state relay driver. Additionally, this board features two conduction sensors, identified as E1 and E2.
